Oscar von Sydow was a Swedish politician who served as Prime Minister of Sweden from February 23 to October 13, 1921. He was one of the people that was instrumental in removing the death penalty in Sweden.
1873 Oscar von Sydow was born on 12 July in Kalmar, Sweden. His father, Henrik August von Sydow (1823-1876), was a magistrate's secretary. His mother was Euphrosyne Maria Modin (1836-1876). Both of his parents died when he was very young and he was raised in Norrland, the northern part of Sweden.[1][2]

1921 The then Prime Minister, Louis de Geer, resigned suddenly, and King Gustaf V convinced von Sydow to accept the position of Prime Minister of Sweden and form a new government. Unfortunately, most of his proposals were defeated in Parliament by the opposition. His most famous accomplishment while in office was the introduction of the bill that led to the abolishing of the death penalty in Sweden.[citation needed]
During this period he was involved in the Haijby affair. It was said that the Swedish King Gustav V had a sexuell relation with Kurt Haijby. Haijby was paid to not tell anything and still today its unsure what happened.
