Biography

Sources indicate that there were two Annetje's born to Phillip and Annetje Volkertszen. One was born early in their childbearing years, and died young. She was probably the first born child, born possibly as early as 1695 and dying as early as 1695-1697. The other was the last born child, born around 1710 most likely in Somerset County, New Jersey Colony, and growing up in the New Jersey Colony area. It was there that she met and married Dirck (Derck/Derrick) Hoogland, around 1727 or 1728. Dirck Hoogland and Annetje (Volkertszen) Hoogland had six children that were known (Derick, Hendrick, Sarah, Maria, Antje, and Rebecca) between about 1728 and about 1746. Different sources show Annetje's death between 1746 and 1762. She is recorded in Dirck Hoogland's will when it was probated on 8 August 1746 in Somerset County, New Jersey Colony.
