Biography

1776 Project
Lieutenant Colonel William Viers served with Upper Battalion, Montgomery County Militia, Maryland Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
William Viers is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A118754.

William was the son of Daniel Viers and Dorothy Handley. In 1766, his father wrote a will leaving a bequest to William. He was to receive part of a tract called "Nine Eatton" after his mother's death.[1]

He was recorded in the special provincial census of 1776 in Frederick county, Maryland (in an area which later became Montgomery county), age 41.

He gave a deposition 20 Jul 1797, age 65.[2]

Will

William wrote his will 25 Jun 1811 in Montgomery county, naming wife Mary and the following children and grandchildren:[3]

William also bequeathed and did not free at least ten enslaved people (there may have been unnamed others in the residue of his estate left to his wife):

  • Negro girl Sal, to son Edward
