George Halbert Vasey was born on 31st January 1925 in Kew, Victoria. He was the elder son of Major General George Alan Vasey CB CBE DSO and Jessie Mary Halbert CBE. The family moved to Wantirna, in Greater Melbourne's outer eastern districts, in 1938.
George Jnr served in the Second Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War; enlisted 26th May 1943, discharged 15th July 1946. [1] He was a senior non-commissioned officer in the 11th Australian Small Ships Company. [2] His father was killed off Cairns, North Queensland in early 1945.
George Halbert Vasey died on 7 Nov 1960 in South Melbourne, Victoria and was buried in the Lilydale Lawn Cemetery, Lilydale, Victoria. [3] [4]
