Gideon was born in 1835. He was the son of Manuel Vantine and Ada Warner. He passed away in 1864 at the Battle of Cold Harbor.
VAN TYNE, GIDEON G.—Age, 26 years. Enlisted, August 8, 1862, at Norfolk, to serve three years; mustered in as sergeant, Co. F, August 27, 1862; captured in action and paroled, April 29, 1863, at Fairmont, V a . ; missing in action, June 1, 1864, at Cold Harbor, Va.; no further record.[1]
