Profielfouten op profielen je beheert, kun je vinden via het menu My WikiTree (rechtsboven) en dan Suggestions. Het heet suggesties in plaats van fouten, omdat niet alle suggesties daadwerkelijk fouten zijn. Ze moeten daarom individueel gecontroleerd worden.

Met het Data Doctors-project proberen we profielfouten in heel WikiTree te vinden en op te lossen, waarbij ik me focus op Nederland.

Thanks for the correction. Although my change wasn't about the death year. I've only changed the name syntax (because "Anonymous" isn't allowed as name on open profiles and gives an error) and the birth location (because Lent wasn't part of Nijmegen before the 1990s).

Thanks for the name correction. I had made that correction elsewhere in Family Search, Ancestry, My Heritage, but must have forgotten the Wikitree site. There had been some confusion with the brothers Jan Willem and Willem Karel - sometimes called Carl Willem. I did see the birth notice - I don't remember if it stated Lent or Nijmegen, nevertheless, thank you for your role in checking these matters down. (Later) Ichecked the birth record again - it reads Geboortedatum: 24-08-1838 Geboorteplaats: Lent (Nijmegen)

The category I've added is the city category of Thessaloniki, which unfortunately doesn't have an English version in the Latin script. The category "Republic of Macedonia" is about the country which is since 2019 called Northern Macedonia. This is a different area, which shouldn't be confused with Greek Macedonia, where the city of Thessaloniki is located.

Noord-Brabant, Nederland is the current location. Without a hyphen, this location is misspelled. In the Netherlands often current locations are used on WikiTree.

If you want to use a historical location it is: - 1482-1555: Hertogdom Brabant, Habsburgse Nederlanden - 1555-1648: Hertogdom Brabant, Spaanse Nederlanden - 1648-1795: Staats-Brabant, Nederland / Staats-Brabant, Republiek der Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden

1795-1815 is a time in which the administrative divisions changed every few years, so it's easier to use current locations. Although I personally use historical locations there.

From 1815 on it's Noord-Brabant, Nederland.

Almost all locations in this family ended on Brabant, both before and after 1830. Brabant has never been a country, so the country name was missing, for almost all profiles in this family. If you'd use current location names, 'België' would be the correct country. So I've corrected that.

Another choice would be to use original names. Then the correct endings would be:

• before 1555: Hertogdom Brabant, Habsburgse Nederlanden
• 1555-1715: Hertogdom Brabant, Spaanse Nederlanden
• 1715-1795: Hertogdom Brabant, Oostenrijkse Nederlanden
• 1795-1804: Dijle, Franse Republiek / Dyle, République française
• 1804-1815: Dijle, Franse Keizerrijk / Dyle, Empire français
• 1815-1830: Zuid-Brabant, Nederland / Zuid-Brabant, Koninkrijk der Nederlanden

Koen I am happy to see that you understand the problem, and indeed I see that in some cases you worked that way. If you had only used that system, that would have been ok. But you did not, and it is now very difficult to fix. What you have done in these cases is NOT a correction is it? You have unfortunately introduced errors. IMHO, they are not "another choice". My listings were also NOT really errors were they? (The concept of a nation state has itself evolved. We are talking about older periods where these were much more fuzzy and unstable. History was not designed with Wikitree data doctoring in mind.) I should not have needed to fear that someone would come and make edits like this IMHO? The history of Belgium is complex, and it is more important to avoid errors than to fill in every field.

Can you correct all the profiles which are now wrong please? If you can't do that easily then it would be better to revert to how the profiles were before please. We need to be careful about data errors becoming a source of alternative reality, and ruining the stories that these family trees tell. The main aim of Wikitree is genealogy, and the information should reflect historical reality. If you are doing a lot of these massive types of edits I think you need to be very careful?

In the Netherlands and Belgium current location names are commonly used on WikiTree, so I don't agree that my change made the profile erroneous. I am very careful with these kind of edits, even when I'm correcting location names on a giant GEDCOM upload.

However, I understand you value the historically correct locations, which I personally also do. So I will try to find all pre-1830 locations on your profiles on which I've added België and correct it.

Bedankt Koen. I don't want to get too philosophical but I would say that "historically correct" is just "correct" when we are talking about historical records? :)

Indeed, let's just call those historical locations, as opposite to current locations and keep the term 'correct' just for the verified information :)

Excuses. Deze profielen gaven bij het opslaan een foutmelding 'Unbalanced ref tags'. Ik heb geprobeerd om dat op te lossen, maar blijkbaar niet op de manier hoe de profielen bedoeld waren. Ik zal me in het vervolg houden bij de plaatsnamen en de eenvoudigere fouten in referenties, zoals herhalende inline references.

Bedankt voor de uitnodiging. Ik ben zeker geïnteresseerd mee te helpen met het Dutch Roots Project. Op dit moment houd ik me, naast mijn eigen familie, voor bezig met het Data Doctor-project in Nederland (inclusief het compleet maken van locatievelden) en heb ik profielen aangemaakt van bekendere personen uit Noord-Brabant. Grofweg in die richting zou ik me bezig willen houden met het Dutch Roots Project.
