Research Notes

LNAB is Pieters. This profile was created as "Elsje Pieters Van Hamburg," apparently because the "Van Hamburg" on her 1650 marriage record was interpreted as a surname. According to the conventions of the Dutch church records of this period, the string "Van Hamburg" on that marriage record must be understood as an indication of her place of birth, not a family surname. Accordingly, her LNAB has been changed to Pieters. Additionally, a profile was created to represent her father, with given name "Pieter" (indicated by Elsje's patronymic name of Pieters) and last name "Van Hamburg" (apparently based on the assumption that this was Elsje's family surname. There is no "known" information about Elsje's father, other than that she must have had a father and his given name must have been Pieter, so his profile is being "merged away" into Elsje's profile. Smith-62120 01:27, 26 March 2024 (UTC) A research note on the "Pieter Van Hamburg" profile noted: Pieter was imported as son of Herman Van Deventer and Mayke Herman. But it is not clear how that can be, and he does not seem to match up with the Pieter who is the rejected match and son of those parents. So he is removed as their son, and his parents are still Unknown.. All we know for certain is that his first name most likely was Pieter, because that was his daughter's patronymic... Unknown-156609 and Van Hamburg-1 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Thanks!

It is not at all clear how this Pieter would properly be a son of these parents. So I set him as a rejected match of the supposed brother, Pieter Van_Deventer-78.

They have no spouse or children in common, so probably this Pieter should simply be disconnected from the Van Deventer parents. But I will put him into NNS for PPP so that we will not be merged.

Van Hamburg-2 and Van Hamburg-1 are not ready to be merged because: These profiles fall under the protection of the New Netherland Settlers Project, so I want to make sure that no changes to the LNAB need to happen before they are merged. They are matches, and will be merged, but need to run past the group first.

Thanks!
