Biography

Simon Danielse Van Antwerp was baptized in Schnectady, Albany County, son of Daniel Janse Van Antwerp and Maria Groot Antwerp. [1]

Note: Schenectady County was created from Albany County in 1809, so baptism and marriage records for Simon can be found in Albany County, New York.

Simon was a landowner and a miller. He bought land and settled in Schaghticoke, New York, in 1710. There is an early record which bears date of October 13, 1718 and which reads:

"The commonality (of Albany) have granted unto Simon Danielse, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain small creek on the south side of his land, to build a grist mill thereon, provided he grinds no wheat for boulting except ye same be boulted within the city of Albany, for which he is to pay yearly, after January, 1724, six skeple wheat yearly."

This is an evidence with what far-reaching methods the old burghers of Rensselaerwyck and Beverwyck watched their interests, and besides it is a fact that the early Van Antwerp settlers sought Schenectady as a place in which to live and prosecute a business unhampered by reason of the imposition of the regulations laid down by the Rensselaerwyck colony.

Simon married, at Albany, December 22, 1706, Maria Peek, daughter of Jacobus Peek, whose father was Jan Peek, inkeeper of New Amsterdam, after whom the creek and town of Peekskill take their name, and who in 1655 sold two houses in Fort Orange to Johannes Dykman for 1,627 guilders.

Van Antwerp-2 and Van Antwerpen-14 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest paternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Thanks! His name appears only once as "van Antwerp" and it appears to have been abbreviated in the record, so merging into the most used form of the name.

How can Simon Danielse Van Antwerp be the son of a man named Antonis Van De Griendt? It appears that there's a serious error here.
