Biography

iii Thurston, b Oct. 23, 1827; m Jan. 4, 1851, at Vernon, Oneida Co., N. Y., Helen Scully.

He enlisted in Co. C, 32nd Wis. Vol. Inf., Aug. 13, 1862, and d Sept. 3, 1864, being struck by lightning at Jonesboro, Clayton Co., Ga. (Pen. Ctf. 66,471); res of widow 1894, Phillips, Price Co., Wis.

Pvt. Thirsten VanDusen alias Thursten was married in 1851 to Helen Scully (1831-1913). They had three children listed on his military pension:[1][2]

  1. Zoa VanDusen born 12 September 1853, died 1916
  2. Frances A. VanDusen born 11 October 1855
  3. Orville VanDusen born 6 April 1860, died 1920

Thirsten enlisted with the Union Army on 13 August 1862. He was mustered into Company C, 32nd Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry.[3]

Pvt. VanDusen was killed accidently by a lightning strike near Jonesboro, Georgia on 3 September 1864.

He was reinterred at the Marietta National Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia after its opening in 1866 during a 3-year project to relocate Union soldiers to this military cemetery.[4]
