Francesco Paolo Vacca was born about 1847 in Gagliano Aterno, a village in the Abruzzo region of Italy, which at the time of Francesco's birth was actually part of the country of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Italy was not a unified nation at that time. He married Maria Corsini. Francesco traveled back and forth between Canada and Italy at least two times. In 1912, he traveled back to Gagliano Aterno his hometown. He returned to Canada in 1914 via the United States. The customs card noted that Francesco had applied for Canadian citizenship and also that he was unable to read and write.
