Biography
Hilda Maud Urban was born in 1895 in Northcote, Victoria (Australia). She was the third and youngest daughter of Hans Urban and Sarah Ann Jarvis. [1] She was just five years of age when Victoria joined the other five British Colonies to federate as the Commonwealth of Australia.
Hilda married Great War, Australian Flying Corps-ace, Harry Cobby, on 24th April 1920 in St Mary's Church of England (now Anglican Church), Caulfield, Victoria. [2] The couple had a son and a daughter. Harry transferred to the newly-established Royal Australian Air Force in 1921, retiring in 1946 as an Air Commodore, and then being appointed to senior positions in the department of Civil Aviation. He was highly decorated both in military and civilian divisions.
Aged 66 years and having been widowed for seven years, Hilda passed away in 1962 in Heidelberg, Victoria. Her ashed are placed with Harry's in the Springvale Botanical Cemetery. [3]
