Mrs. J.W. Kelley Passed Away

Esther Ida Updyke was born in Decatur County, Indiana, September 6, 1860. She was converted at the age of fourteen; being a member of the Baptist church. Later she became a devout member of the M.E. church of which she was a member the remainder of her life. She was married to James W. Kelley, Sepember 11, 1878, and they moved to Iowa to make their home. To this union there were born ten children, Otis A., Charles G., Mrs. Nancy Higgins, Samuel Barcley, William W., Lawrence H., Ira E., Mrs. Grace Gibson, Esther Mae and Thomas Orlo. Eight children with her husband survive. Samuel Barcley dying in infancy and Mrs. Grace Gibson having passed away January 13, 1919.

In 1901 Mr. and Mrs. Kelley and family moved to Kansas and lived on their farm west of Humboldt, later moving to town, where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Kelley was taken ill at her home three weeks ago and was moved to the Johnson hospital in Chanute, where she passed away July 11, 1920, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 5 days.

She was a member of the W.C.T.U. and the Mutual Benefit Society.

Mrs. Kelley was a kind and loving mother devoted to her home and family.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C.L. Crippin assisted by Rev. H.A. Gordon, formerly pastor of the church, were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, July 13, at 3 o'clock, Rev. Gordon preaching a very beautiful and touching sermon.

Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
