Elizabeth was born about 1820. She married Lothrop Wethrell. After her husbands' death in 1854, she moved to Louisville, Kentucky where she operated a school. With the start of the US Civil War, Mrs. Wethrell worked as a nurse under the Western Sanitary Commission first in St. Louis, Missouri, and then on the hospital transport "Empress." Mrs. Wethrell died in service on 10 July 1862 and was buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Ware, Massachusetts.
The 1855 Massachusetts State Census records her as Betsey living with Lou who is believed to be her mother-in-law and William who might be her child or of some other family relation.

Research Notes
This profile was primarily based on the essay by Reverend J. C. Forman in Brockett and Vaughn's "Woman's Work in the Civil War" Regrettably, the few sources which support Forman's essay show different details. Kuntz-859 21:54, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
