Biography

The name of the wife of John Trowbridge of Taunton was Alice. Her LNAB, parentage, birth date and birth place are otherwise unknown. Her husband occurs in records of Taunton from 1525 to 1545. Following the death of John Trowbridge, his widow married 2nd John Franke of Taunton. Finally, as her 3rd husband, she married Peter Daberham. The will of Peter Daberham, made 25 July 1556 and proved 22 September 1556, names among others his wife Alice and “Thomas Strowbridge, my son-in-law, prentice in London.”^[1]

That Thomas Trowbridge was the son of John Trowbridge of Taunton and Alice was shown by Charles Fitch-Northen.^[2] The exact evidence for proving the connection is lacking in the article and the reference refers to private correspondence with his English researcher.

Alice died after 25 July 1556 when she was named in the will of her husband.
