Biography

The names of two children of the "Widow Briant" are recorded in the vital records of Livermore, Maine, with birth dates in 1778 and 1783.^[1] Nothing more is known of this family. Based on the date of birth of the older of those two children, and her possible marriage (see the Research Note below), 1754 is a reasonable estimate for her birth.

Where her two recorded sons were born is not known. Likewise unknown are when she came to Livermore and whether she came to Livermore with her husband or as a widow. No record has been found of a subsequent marriage or of her death.

Research Note

A FindAGrave memorial for Lemuel Dunham, the second husband of the second wife of Nehemiah Bryant, the younger son of the "widow Bryant" and the brother of Zenus Bryant, says that Nehemiah was the son of Gamaliel and Sarah (Stetson) Bryant of Livermore. The Research Note cites no sources for the identification of Nehemiah's parents but does cite primary sources for other assertions and appears to be carefully researched.^[2] An unsourced Ancestry.com profile for "Zenas Bryant" makes the same claim for the names of his parents.^[3] Gamaliel Bryant and Sarah Stetson, both of Halifax, Massachusetts, married there on 20 Nov 1772,^[4] but there are no records of any children of the couple born there.
