Rosie (Unknown) Jaffe migrated from Russian Empire to United States.

Biography

Rosie was born about 1845 in Russia.^[1] The names of her parents are not known.

Rosie is believed to have married Morris Jaffe (see Notes). They were married in Russia about 1870 and had two children, Rose and Annie, both of whom were also born in Russia.^[1] Rosie emigrated to the United States about 1890 (see Notes).

In 1900 Rosie was living in Shenandoah, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, United States with her daughter Rose, her son-in-law, Isaac Orkin (Rose's husband), their two children, Eva and Abe, and Rosie's other daughter, Annie.^[1] It is believed that Rosie's husband, Morris, emigrated from Russia to the United States in 1895,^[2] but no record of his immigration has been found, nor are his whereabouts in 1900 known.

In 1920, Rosie and Morris were living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States.^[2]

It is not known when or where Rosie died.

Notes

Marriage
Rosie's marital status was listed as married in 1900, so it is presumed that her husband was living at the time, although they were not living in the same household.^[1] There is a 1920 census record that shows a Rosie Jaffe married to a Morris Jaffe, living in Pittsburgh,^[2] which is not far from where Rosie lived in 1900. The birth year, immigration year, and number of children matches the information in Rosie's 1900 census record,^[1] therefore it is believed likely that Rosie's husband's first name was Morris.

Immigration
Although no record of Rosie's immigration has been found, both the 1900^[1] and 1920^[2] census records indicate that she had been in the United States since 1890. Her daughter, Rose, also most likely emigrated to the United States in 1890 and her other daughter, Annie, may have emigrated to the United States the same year, suggesting that they may have traveled together.
