Biography

European Aristocracy
Adelinda Unknown was a member of the aristocracy in Europe.

Adelinda is named (as Adallinda) as the wife of Eberhard III, Graf im Nordgau in the Vita sancti Deicoli (Life of Saint Deicolus),[1] written about 965.[2]

In this source she is his lawful wife, but repudiated and Eberhard takes as his consort a nun from Erstein Abbey instead.[1]

This appears to be the only source that names her, but has been accepted as correct by several secondary sources; including Europäische Stammtafeln,[3] and Genealogie-Mittelalter.[4]

Eberhard III's heir Hugo V, is likely to be her son.[3]

Research Notes

Adelinda's parents or family name are not mentioned in the Vita sancti Deicoli and they are unknown.

The Rootsweb website of J Weber may have stated that she was a member of the Vermandois family, the daughter of Pepin I de Vermandois, Comte de Senlis (died about 893). However changes to Rootsweb, mean that the source for this is not clear (Page: 182), though it may be from, The Plantagenet Ancestry: Being Tables Showing Over 7,000 of the Ancestors of Elizabeth (daughter of Edward IV and Wife of Henry VII) the Heiress of the Plantagenets, by William H. Turton, which has been largely discredited particularly for earlier generations and this parentage for Adelinda isn't followed by any other sources.

Can we delete the birthplace? Since nothing is known about Adelinda's origin and since the location given does not exist (Kelheim is in Niederbayern and nowhere near the Bavarian Schwaben which in any case only became Bavarian in 1803) this location does not make any sense.

Optional Tip: If you put "Adelinda von Norgau" in H2 tags, she'll probably get pulled up in WikiTree's regular DB search. I noticed that's been happening after a recent change when I hunt for specific names. And naturally, it'll boost the SEO in Google... So if you think findability should be improved, H1 or H2 tags are one work around.

She's has no known parents, and there's no primary source to support the marriage ... but we assume she married the Graf im Nordgau. Also... to prevent confusion with Adelaide Vermandois... there's another line that believes that's Eberhard's wife (probably a bad merge).

PS: Don't forget we can search both surnames on page (click either lnab in vital area), along with the other WikiTree search tools like our custom search.

Bree, just a procedural question.....why did you take Adelinda (with a known connection to Nordgau) and move her to Unknown, with almost 300,000 people? If someone was looking for her, wouldn't she be easier to find under Nordgau or von Nordgau, instead? Mike
