Biography

Yetta was born about 1863 in Russia.[1] She married Simon Gordon and they had nine children.[2]

Yetta, Simon, and the children immigrated from Russia to the United States in two stages. They first traveled to England, where they probably remained for a few years because their four youngest children are likely to have been born there (see Notes). The family traveled from Liverpool, England to Levis, Quebec, Canada aboard a ship named Gallia. They then crossed the border from there into the United States June 29, 1898[3]

Simon, Yetta, and their nine children had established residence in Baltimore, Maryland, United States by 1900.[2] They remained there in 1910, although their oldest child no longer lived with them,[4] and 1920, when six of their children still remained with them (one died in 1912.)[5] Yetta continued to live there after Sam's death in 1925.[6] Five children still lived with her in 1930[7] and, in 1940, after another child had died, four children still remained in her household, along with the spouse and child of one.[8] In this family, the few children who married appeared to do so well into their thirties.

Yetta died May 8, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. She is buried with Simon in Plot B 8 270 of the Bnai Israel Congregation Cemetery, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland, United States. The inscription on her gravestone reads:[1]

Yenta Devorah bat r. Yosef Dov

Notes

Although all records show Simon and Yetta as born in Russia, it is a different story for their children. The children were either all born in England,[2] all born in Russia,[4], or the oldest five were born in Russia and the youngest four were born in England[5] (which matches their death records).

**DON'T MERGE THIS PROFILE WITH Unknown-313763**

This is DEFINITELY NOT the same person as Unknown-313763. This profile was originally added before it was discovered to be a different Yetta (Unknown) Gordon from the one that should have been added, after which the correct one was added.

Since this Yetta (Unknown) Gordon was a real person and has a very well researched profile, it was not changed to the other Yetta (Unknown) Gordon, which results in what may appear to be duplicates. Please note that, although they have the same name, birth year, birth place, and both had a spouse named Simon Gordon, THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND ARE NOT DUPLICATES!
