Biography

Birth

Jacob was born on September 12, 1868 in the village of Johannestal in the Beresan district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Matthaeus Ulmer and Katharina (Delzer) Ulmer. He was the fifth of his father's 11 children and the last of his mother's 5 children. Jacob was baptized on September 14, 1868.[1]


Immigration

On September 1, 1874, at the age of 5, Jacob, along with his parents and their blended family, made the journey to America. They departed from Hamburg, Germany aboard the S.S. Schiller and arrived in New York, NY.[2]


Family

On November 27, 1890, at the age of 22, Jacob married Anna Maria Huber (1872-1956) in South Dakota.

Death

On May 7, 1935, at the age of 66, Jacob passed away in Yankton County, SD.[3]
