Biography
The son of John Hubbard Tweedy, Sr. (1814-1891) and Anna Maria Fisher (1825-1911), John was born in Milwaukee in 1857.[1][2][3] His siblings included:
James Fisher Tweedy (1849-1901)
Louisa Tweedy (1851-1851)
Marietta Tweedy (1854-)
Charles Tweedy (1856-1857)
Robert Benedict Tweedy (1864-)
He married Mary (Van Dyke) Tweedy in Milwaukee on February 9, 1886.[4] In 1900, John and Mary Ellen lived with John's widowed father-in-law, an attorney, in Milwaukee, along with their infant son, J. Van Dyke Tweedy, and three female servants, including one nurse. John worked as a newpaper editor.[5] In 1910, John was enumerated in Milwaukee, working in real estate while his wife and children, and their servants, were enumerated in Easton, Maryland.[6] In 1920, John was enumerated on the census in Milwaukee. In the household was "Harriet," listed as his wife, and his two sons; John listed no employment.[7]
In 1924, he completed a passport application, seeking to travel to various countries in western Europe.[8] He was described, at 66 years of age, as 5'8" tall with blue eyes and brown and grey hair.
He passed away in Wisconsin at the age of 75 and is buried at Forest Home Cemetery there.[9]
