Biography

Birth

Mary Tweed was born on 15 March 1868 at Thalia Station near St Arnaud, Victoria, Australia. ^[1]

Her father and mother returned to Ireland in 1868 or 1869. They sewed enough money into her swaddling clothes to buy a good sized farm on return to County Antrim. Passing through Victoria, they stayed in a place a teenage Ned Kelly had robbed the night before. On getting to Sydney her father sold the wagon and they caught a sailing ship back to Belfast, as they had missed the steamer.
