Biography

Frederick Blanding was born in 13 Apr 1928 to Maurine Elleanor Blanding and Lewis C Tuttle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the youngest of three children, seven years younger than his sister Lucy, and ten years younger than brother Lewis Carleton[1].

Fred saw his older brother enter WWII as an officer, and then a few years later saw his older sister Lucy graduate college with a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and go on to work with wounded veterans coming home from the war (Tuttle-6432.) It must have inspired him because even as the war had ended, Fred joined the Navy at age 17 on 1 February 1946 and was an Air Traffic Controller at North Island[2]. He reported being the youngest tower supervisor there[3]

When Fred got out of the service, he followed in his brother Lewis' footsteps and went to college and law school at Marquette University on the GI Bill. He met and married Donna Passmore on 11 June 1949 [4] Together they had 10 children.

In August 1965, he married Dorothy Tuttle and together they had four children.

Fred died of squamous cell carcinoma from lung cancer that spread to his brain 11 July, 1997 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianpolis[5]. He was 69. He was buried at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery [6]He left an enduring love of aviation in two of his children and infected all the last four kids with his weird sense of humor and readiness to laugh, altho not all shared or even understood his love for Beavis and Butthead. On his deathbed he remembered and asked for his other children. He never forgot.
