Biography

Nathaniel Tuthill was born 3 July 1731 and died 8 Apr 1768, the son of Nathaniel & Hannah (King) Tuthill.[1][2]

He married 1) Michal Youngs 7 Aug 1755 in Oysterponds, LI.[1][2] Michal died 26 Feb. 1756[3] at the birth of her only child, Michal born 25 Feb 1756.[1]

He married 2) Mary Havens 22 Nov 1759 in Sag Harbor,[1] daughter of Constant and Abigail Havens of Sag Harbor, Mary b. 1735 and d. 1822 ae. 87[2] They had five children:[1]

  2. Hannah, May 1762
  3. died young
  4. Eliz., Aug 1764
  5. Lucretia, 14 July 1768"

Nathaniel was buried in the Hashamomack Cemetery Southold, Suffolk County, New York.[5] The Inscription on his stone reads:[6]

Mr. Nathaniel Tuthill
Who died April ye 8th
A.D. 1768 in ye 37 Year
of his age.
Our days are number'd we are told
Our life is but a Span
Ye living Mortals may behold
How frail a thing is Man.
His love to God & Faith was true
