Romano dei conti di Tuscolo was born in Rome, the third son of Count Gregory I of Tusculum and his wife Mary.[1][2]
At the time his brother was Pope Benedict VIII, Romano was a consul and senator. It was on the death of his brother Benedict VIII that Romano was elected to succeed him and was immediately ordained deacon, priest and bishop to enable him to ascend to the papacy taking the name John XIX.[2]
Platina[3] states:
On his death in 1032 he was succeeded by his nephew Benedict IX.[2]
