Biography
Jane Turnbull was born on 27th March 1843 and Baptised on 12th April the same year at Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire. Jane's parents are James Turnbull and Mary Scott.[1]

In the 1851 census Jane (age 8), Scholar, was the daughter of James Turnbull in Penston, Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire[10].
Jane married Adam Bald on 27 April 1866 in Dunbar, Haddingtonshire[11].
The couple went on to have 5 children together:
In the 1871 census Jane (age 28) was the wife of Adam Bald in West Barns Road, Dunbar, Haddingtonshire[12].
Jane's husband Adam died on 30 July 1872 in Dunbar at the age of 33 from Pneumonia.
Jane went on to have another child in 1878, Francis Bald. It is not known who his father is his birth certificate states he is illegitimate.
In the 1881 census Jane (age 38), Mill Worker, was in Edinburgh Road, Dunbar, Haddingtonshire[13].
In the 1891 census Jane (age 48), General Servt Domestic, was in Main Street, Aberlady, Haddingtonshire[14].
In the 1901 census Jane (age 56), Washerwoman, was in Main Street, Aberlady, Haddingtonshire[15].
Jane died on 9 February 1910 in Haddington at the age of 67.[16]

James Turnbull and Mary Scott, Parents
James Turnbull was born about 1813 in Wick, Caithness this is estimated based on census information. His father was Andrew Turnbull.
Mary Scott was born about 1817 in Edinburgh, Midlothian this is estimated based on census information.
James Turnbull and Mary Scott married on 11 June 1841 at Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire[17].
In the 1851 census James (age 37), Groom, was in Penston, Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire[18].
In the 1861 census James (age 48), Groom (dom Sev), was in Penston, Gladsmuir, Haddingtonshire[19].
In the 1871 census James (age 60), Coachman Domestic Servant, was in Hedderwickhill Farm Labourers Cottage, Dunbar, Haddingtonshire.[20]
James Turnbull died on 6 June 1875 at Belhaven, Dunbar, Haddingtonshire aged 65 years. His cause of death is given as Jaundice of 14 days. Andrew Watt his son in law was the informant as to James' death[21].
In the 1881 census Mary (age 64) was in High St 161 Dark Close, Dunbar, Haddingtonshire[22].
Mary died in 1884 in Dunbar aged 68 years[23]
