Biography

Elihu Tudor, was born in South Windsor, Connecticut, February 3, 1732, the second son Rev. Samuel and Mary Tudor. ^[1] He was the great grandson of Owen Tudor, one of the first settlers of Windsor.^[2]

In the French war he joined the British 44th Regiment as Surgeon's mate, having studied medicine at Yale College. He was in General Wolfe's 1749 expedition that defeated Canada. He was involved in the capture of Havana in 1762. He remained in the army until the peace of 1763. After the war, he went to England for two or three years practicing medicine. In 1765 he returned to America and settled in East (now South) Windsor. Around 1767 he retired from the British army on half-pay. ^[3]

On February 4, 1769, he married Lucretia Brewster, of Middletown Upper Houses, now Cromwell, younger daughter of Elisha and Lucia (Yeomans) Brewster. They had five sons and six daughters, one of whom married Colonel Andrew Hillyer. ^[4]

He was in the Revolutionary War, in Captain Grant's Company.^[5] Dr. Elihu Tudor died in South Windsor, March 8, 1826, at the age of 93. Lucretia died on September 13, 1801, at the age of 54.^[6] He was buried in Center Cemetery, South Windsor, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA. ^[7]
