Early records for George Tucker are scarce and details about his early life are unknown. To date the only known record of his birth year and location is the Daughters of the American Revolution appication of one of his great-granddaughters that records that he was born in 1750 in Montgomery, Maryland.[1] However, no corroborating records have been found to substantiate this entry. There are other Tucker families living near him in the mid 18th century that may later give some clue as to the identities of his parents.
Lord Dunmore's War was a war fought between the Colony of Virginia and the Shawnee and Mingo American Indians. The war took its name from the the 4th Earl of Dunmore, John Murray. He called on the Virginia House of Burgesses to declare war on the Indians and to call up a Militia for the conflict.
The war was a result of escalating conflict between the natives and settlers after settler incursions into land that was reserved for the Indians by treaty. After violating their lands the Native Americans attacked white hunting parties and reprisals occured. The conflict lasted from May until October 1744.
George is listed on the rolls of Captain Zachquil Morgan's Company along with brothers-in-law Samuel Jr., Richard, and Thomas Merrifield.[2]
George was married to Mary Lee Merrifield and together the couple had eight children.[1] The family lived near to Mary's parents and George had military service with Mary's brothers to include action in Lord Dunmore's War.
