Sarahette was the first child and first daughter of Benjamin Tryon and Hannah Salls. She married Edward L. Brush, son of James Brush and Sally Thistlewaite, on July 11, 1850.
Mrs. E. L. Brush of Malone formerly of this place passed to the higher life Sunday, Dec. 9 from the effects of an apoplectic stroke which she sustained Aug. 31[?21], Although she recovered sufficiently to be moved to her daughter’s home at Malone a few weeks ago she never regained her power of speech. A little over three months ago Mr. Brush passed from us and now she has gone to be with him in that great beyond, “where there is no pain nor sickness.” Mrs. Brush was a woman whose sweet an[d] gentle character won the sincerest friendship of those who knew her and held them all in the bonds of deep and abiding affection. She was a member of the M. E. church of this place, being always true to Christ and the church. Many a one has had their path brightened by her kind and loving advice and counsel and cheered by her cheerful smiles. It can truly be said that we have lost one of the best of neighbors and one who could always say, under all circumstances, “It is all for the best.” Mrs. Brush’s maiden name was Sarahette Tryon and [she] was born December 28, 1828. She was united in marriage to E. L. Brush in July 11, 1850. She leaves four children. Ira of Leominster, Mass, Charles and George of Moira and Mrs. A. C. Allison of Malone: two sisters, Mrs. L. M. Curtis of Brookdale and Mrs. L. Grandy of Pay Pond, besides grandchildren and a great many other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral sercvices were held in the M. E. church Wednesday at 16 o’clock, Rev. C. C. Cramer speaking words of comfort from Psalms 107-30, “she has reached her desired haven.” Rev. W. H. Jago, of Renselaer Falls, her former pastor, offered prayer and speaking words of eulogy. Interment in Hale cemetery. The family have our sincere sympathy in this their double sorrow.[1]
