Gussie (Troup) Gillis is a part of US Black heritage.

Augusta F Troup was born about May 1865 in Georgia, United States, daughter of Solomon Troup (~1842– ) and Terah Troup (~1841–<1880).

Sometime after the 1880 census was enumerated the family's surname was changed to Conoway. One son's SSA record has her LNAB of Troup on it instead of Conoway.^[1]

She married Sam Gillis on 11 January 1891 in Laurens County, Georgia, United States.^[2]

Research Notes

It's possible that Augusta and Forman Troup are the same person despite the name being typically assigned to males and the fact that Forman was enumerated as male in the 1870 census. Augusta doesn't appear with her family until the 1880 census (enumerated as Solomon's daughter) despite every version of her birthdate on records being before 1870. Her birthdate from the 1880 census is 1858. It's also possible that she was born after the 1870 census was enumerated since the birth year given on records can be off by a lot.
