Research Notes

Age at Death, Birth Date and Death Date: Adam's tombstone has his death date Sept 7, 1916 and age at death as 78 years 1 month 14 days. This should give him a birth date of 24 July 1838. This, at least, is roughly in accordance with his ages as given in the census records, but misses by some months the date of Sep 1836 in the 1900 census. His death certificate gives his age at death as it appears on his tombstone, but apparently miscalculates his birth date as July 23, 1828. Using 23 July 1837 in this profile as 1838 conflicts with the birth of his younger brother Jacob. The date of death appearing on his death certificate also varies from that on his tombstone by one day: date is 8 Sep 1916. NOTE: the doctor who signed the death certificate and had treated him was not in attendance at his death, so the exact date and time may be suspect. Thus, both dates are close but not definitive, as the tombstone was likely carved some time after his death and may not have been accurate.
