Biography

William James Treloar was born in January, 1839 in Cornwall, England, ^[1] and baptized on Feb 1839, the son of William Vivian Treloar and Elizabeth Harvey. ^[2]

On 18 Oct 1864 he married Elizabeth O'Neill. ^[3] Their children included:

• Vivian Alfred Treloar (1865–);
• Elizabeth Alice Treloar (1867–1928);
• Mary Jane Treloar (1871–1940).

After Elizabeth's death in 1872, he married Elizabeth Sharkey. ^[4]

William died on November 7, 1908 in Queensland, Australia, aged 69. He was buried in McLeod Street Pioneer Cemetery, Cairns, Cairns Region, Queensland.^{[1] [5]}

Research Notes

There is no GRO birth registration for a William Treloar between 1837 and 1841 whose mother's LNAB is Harvey. There is an 1839 birth recorded, with the mother's LNAB Cocking. ^[6] However, my sense is that this William James Treloar is not the son of William Treloar and Elizabeth Trebilcock (neé Cocking).

There are a number of possibilities:

• He may have born earlier, and not baptized until 1839. One unsourced family tree gives his birth year as 1833;
• The Queensland death registration was incorrect, and his mother's LNAB was not Harvey;
• His mother married twice, and Harvey was not her LNAB, but her surname at the time of William's death.
