Biography

Barbara was born about 1637, daughter of Thomas Traill, 1st of Holland and his wife Marian Craigie.^[1]

She married Patrick Fea, 1st of Whitehall; marriage contract dated 7th August 1667.^[1][2] They had a family of four sons and three daughters:^[3]

• James Fea, 2nd of Whitehall
• Patrick Fea, 1st of Kirbuster
• Charles Fea, 1st of Airy
• George Fea, whom David Scott in his article on the Feas in The Orcadian of April 1971 believed died young.
• Elizabeth Fea who married the Rev. Thomas Baikie, minister of Kirkwall and St. Ola
• Barbara Fea, b. 1689
• Kitty Fea

Research notes

Dr. William Traill's book A Genealogical Account of the Traills of Orkney lists Barbara as a child of Thomas' father George and his second wife Isabel Craigie. However this timeline is problematic; Barbara would have had to have been born around 1630, but she marries Patrick in 1667 when she is near to the end of child bearing years, but then had 7 children. Elsie Ritchie's book plus Northern Skies Genealogy has Barbara as a daughter of George's heir Thomas; Dr. Traill's book has many errors - so going with Elsie here.
