William was born about 1882. He passed away before 1933.

So far, there has been no documentation of when William C Toy died. We know he was alive in 1911 when his mother, Mary Ellen Toy's estate record lists her Heirs. Clearly William and Hazel are separated/divorced by this time and Hazel remarried in 1914 to James E Knott. William seems to have gotten into some trouble with check forgery or so the police believed. And in 1902 he attempted suicide at the home of Walter and Ella Hobbs so things weren't exactly going great in his life. In 1906 his father posted a public notice in the paper that he would not be responsible for any bills incurred by his son William. The probate record for Mary Ellen Toy says Williams address at that time, in 1911 was Wilmington. When administrative papers were again filed on the estate for Mary Ellen Toy in 1919, it says that William C is living at Penns Grove, New Jersey so apparently is still living at this time.

When William's father William Toy Sr died, the informant was Wm Toy living at the old family home of 214 N Adams St. So, it looks like William was still living when his father died in May 1930. When Brother John Martin Toy died in 1933, survivors are listed as wife Lillie, 3 daughters and a brother Thomas. So, in my book, it looks like William died sometime between 1930 and 1933. Still looking for him in 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records.

A clipping from the newspaper about a surprise birthday party for William was printed in the paper on Sat. Oct. 24, 1896, and said the birthday party had been on Thursday. It appears that this article is about William Jr and not Sr although no distinction is made. So, the birthdate I have currently on this profile is taken from that article. I have estimated because I'm not positive. The Sr. William's birthdate according to his death certificate is Nov. 4th, so after October. However, that birthdate could be incorrect also.
