Torvald Toresson, Norwegian knight and governor, the father of Herdis Torvald Daughter. Torvald Toresson is the first person who is better acquainted in Shetland's history. He is first mentioned in 1289, when he was appointed as one of the Norwegian ambassadors to negotiations with King Edward I of England in connection with that King Eirik Magnusson daughter Margaret was the nearest heir to the throne of Scotland. Torvald followed King Eric and his brother Duke Haakon at least one of their leidangstog to Danish waters 1289-1295, in that he past year was one of the guarantors Hindsgavl agreement on armistice with Denmark. 1309 he stood first among the knights who medbeseglet King Haakon V peace treaty with Denmark in Copenhagen. In the later legends like tradition in Shetland stands Thorvald as a great lord, without the historical evidence for this.
