Martha Tonkin daughter of James and Elizabeth was baptised 15 August 1830 in St Buryan, Cornwall, England [1]

She emigrated with her parents and sisters to South Australia on the British Sovereign, arriving at Port Adelaide on 17 July 1847. [2]

Martha passed away age 78 in 1908 [4] and was buried in Willunga Uniting Church Cemetery. [5]

Mrs. Martha Jelbert De Caux.
Mrs. Martha Jelbert de Caux, who died at Willunga on June 11 at the age of 78 years, was born in Penzance, Cornwall, in 1830, and came to South Australia with her father (the late Mr. James Tonkin, of Yankalilla) and four sisters in 1847. She was married to Mr. Felix P. F. de Caux in 1848. They resided for a short period on Lefevre's Peninsula, and then removed to Yankalilla. Mr. de Caux, while going across from Yankalilla to the Echunga goldfields, camped on the Meadows, and was so pleased with the country that he bought land and settled on what is now known as Dingabledinga. They were among the first settlers in the district, and did considerable pioneering work there. Mrs. de Caux had been living in Willunga town for a number of years. Four sons Messrs. Felix, Phillip, Alfred and Frederick, all of Dingabledinga - two daughters Mrs. John McMurtrie (of McLaren Vale) and Miss de Caux (of Adelaide) and 17 grandchildren survive. [6]

Thompkins-50 and Tonkin-1864 appear to represent the same person because: Tonkin is the last name at birth, duplicate profile
