Biography

I was born on 28 December 1960 to Henry John and Vivienne Jean Todd. I have lived in Revesby, Sydney. I attended Revesby Primary School until I was six years old. When my younger sister was only six weeks old my family, in November 1966, moved to Kempsey, mid north coast of New South Wales. I attended West Kempsey Primary School and Kempsey High School. My family and I were involved with the Kempsey Uniting Church. We all attended services every Sunday and my brothers and sisters would attend Sunday School. My dad was a Sunday School teacher and would be involved with the organisation of Sunday School Camps. What can you add?

Hi Roslyn,

Re: Mary Thistleton Ingold (SMART)

I would like to let you know that I have added the birth information to the bottom of the page for the children of Mary Thistleton Ingold (SMART) and her husband. It may help if you wish to add their children.

Regards,

Margaret Cranley [Cranley-15]

Hello Roslyn - thanks so much for adding your Wiki-ID to the societys page, however it is best if they all appear on our 'members' page. Can you please adjust the category on your profile to read Category: Members of the Society of Australian Genealogists so that it appears on the correct page with other members. Thanks, Veronica

Hi Roslyn

My 3rd great grandmother was Ellen Foley nee Gamble (also know as Ellen Harty) I am piecing together her life and horrid death. I have been trying to find a grave for Ellen and so far no luck. I wonder if you have more information on Ellen. I have her birth year as 1809, but that may not be correct. I would love to hear from you. Regards Lynne Fairhall

Hi Lynne

Thank you getting in touch with me.

Just some background: Ellen Foley (nee Gamble) is also my 3rd great grandmother. Her daughter, Hannah Foley (2nd great grandmother) married Samuel Turvin Hobart. Their son, William Francis Hobart (my great grandfather) married Florence Celia Caroline Smith. Their daughter, Edith Mary Jane Hobart (my grandmother) married Ernst Vivian Bale. Their daughter, Vivienne Jean Bale (my mother) married Henry John Todd.

I found an article in RIFLE ASSOCIATION OF NEW SOUTH WALES. (1871, November 28). The Maitland Mercury and Hunter River General Advertiser (NSW : 1843 - 1893), p. 2. regarding the death of Ellen Foley it reads:

"DEATH FROM BURNING-An inquest was held at the Maitland Hospital, commencing on Friday last, and concluded yesterday afternoon, before the coroner, Mr T .W Pearse, respecting the death of a woman named Ellen Foley, who was admitted into the Hospital on the 15th instant. Deceased, it appeared, was a widow, aged about 56, who resided at Clarence Town and when she was brought to the Hospital she stated that her clothes had been burnt off her, but she seemed confused, and unable to give a clear account of the occurrence. The evidence of Dr Morson showed that deceased had been very badly burned from the shoulders and arms down the back, the right leg and foot were also much injured, as well as the pit of the stomach and chest. The injuries were so severe that she could not possibly live, and she died from exhaustion consequent on the injuries received. It further appeared that deceased had been seen on the night before the accident, sitting at a fire with some blacks. On the following morning she was found in a paddock with her clothes nearly all burned off her, she was conscious then, but in the opinion of a witness she was under the influence of drink. There was also evidence that deceased was addicted to drink, and that she was a smoker. The jury found a verdict that deceased died from the effects of burns, but that how the burns were inflicted there was no evidence to show."

Lynne, I don't know whether you have found similar information; I placed Ellen Foley's death as the year of this article of 1871. After reading the inquest notice, I feared that all the information that I thought about Ellen's husband, John Foley could be incorrect. If Ellen was a widow of 56 years I think that would mean that her husband John died in or around 1815.

Could you let me know if you have information on Ellen's husband, as I think my information is incorrect.

I would love to hear from you again.

Regards Roslyn

Congratulations Roslyn on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand Pre-1700 Profiles These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Hi Roslyn,

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care

Hi Karen, when I merged my mum's profile (Bale-1057) with a duplicate (Bale-1044) it removed the DNA Ancestry results and I don't know how to add my results to my mother. Regards, Roslyn

Hi Roslyn,

As your mother is still living, due to changes in the privacy laws in 2018 GDPR FAQ you are no longer able to add them for her, this may be why they disappeared, you can invite her to become a Family member so she can add them herself.

I hope this helps, any problems please let me know

Take care and have fun

Karen 🤗

Hi Cheryl

Could you please help with combining my mother's profile that I had created and another profile that another person created. It is BALE-1044 (a stranger made this one - no idea who it is) and the one I made for my family BALE-1057. I tried the steps, but I do not want this stranger to be the profile manager because they do not know my mother. I did not give permission for this person to place a profile for my mother on wikitree. Sometimes, I have been very disappointed with WikiTree as I have placed some reference material into my grandfather's profile, my grandfather's profile was set up by this stranger and he has control and now I cannot edit. I just feel deleting all the contributions that I have made. I would not recommend this site or joining to anyone I know, I'm sorry that I joined as I do love research MY family history. Regards, Roslyn
