According to the Journal/Diary of son, JOHANNE JOHN TOBLER, he was the son of ULRICH and ELSBETH SCHLÄPFER born in Rehetobel Switzerland.[1]
No document has been found to determine if ELSBETH and ULRICH emigrated to South Carolina with her son, JOHANNE. There was one JOHANNES "SCHEFFER" documented with JOHANNE TOBLER. Since the pronunciation of "Schläpfer" sounds similar to the English pronunciation of "Scheffer," He could be a relative.
If she died in 1696, she would have died in Appenzell, Appenzell-Inner Rhoden, Switzerland.
Research Notes
Surname also spelled Schleipffer in Swiss Emigrants in the Eighteenth Century to the American Colonies.
