Marguerite Theriot was born about 1693 at Port Royal, Acadia. [1]

Her actual birthdate is uncertain as there is no child named Marguerite on the 1693 census, indicating a birth after that time.[2]. She is present in 1698, age 8 which would put her birthdate in 1690, but why was she missing from the 1693 record?[3] The 1700 census would be more consistent with her lack of presence in 1693, being born after that census, since she was age 7 in 1700.[4] It's unclear who wrote the 1701 survey as the names and ages of all people in this family bear little resemblence from the year prior even though there is only one Claude Theriot in Port Royal. Marguerite is not listed at all.[5] The censuses following these did not list children's names.

Rene Richard dit Beaupre and Marguerite were married January 26, 1712 at Port Royal. [6][7]

They had nine children between 1713 and 1731[8][9]

  1. Marie Josèphe Richard
  2. Marguerite Francoise Richard
  3. Magdelaine Richard
  4. Joseph Richard
  5. Claire Richard
  6. Judith Richard
  7. René Richard
  8. Charles Richard
  9. Anne Marie Richard

She was on the 1763 census at MA with one daughter not named but likely to be Marguerite Francoise who appears to have never married (all the others were married in Port Royal before the expulsion, thus would be with their spouses.[10]. Obviously they traveled to Quebec as both of them died there, but no events are found in Quebec (Drouin) before their deaths to indicate their arrival there.

Marguerite died April 1777 and was buried 28 APR 1777, at Becancour, Quebec, Canada, age 97 (which would give birth date of 1680)[11]

Research Notes

This Marguerite has an older sister also named Marguerite Marguerite Thériot (abt.1667-) who was born about 1667 and who married about 1683, at Port Royal, Acadia, Claude Landry.[12]. Though there is confusion about this Marguerite and her immediately older sister Marie, Stephen White gives their birth dates as 1693 and 1691, respectively.(Bourque-573 18:46, 19 April 2024 (UTC))

Thériot-72 and Thériot-121 are sisters, not the same person. The birth date was entered incorrectly on this one, probably by mixing up the two sisters. Those wacky Acadians, reusing the same names all the time. :)

Thériot-121 and Thériot-72 appear to represent the same person because: Pertinent info and family agree. Note that death date agrees except for year. (Possible error in entry or documentation)> Suggest duplicates be merged and discrepancy resolved or noted in text section with sources
