Biography

Hiram was Sac and Fox.

Hiram Thorpe was born about 1852 in Kansas. His parents were Hiram Thorpe, a white man, and No-Ten-O-Quah, a Sac. He supposedly had an Irish father and a Sac and Fox mother, but his Irish origins were disproved in 2004 by a professional genealogist who worked his Thorpe line back to William Thorpe, an England-born immigrant and early settler of New Haven, Connecticut.[1]With his first wife, Mary Ellis, Hiram was the father of Minnie, Frank and Jack. [2] He married Charlotte Vieux, a Pottawatamie, about 1881. They were the parents of George, Margaret, James, Charles, [3] Mary, Rosetta [4] Adeline, and Edward. [5] Charlotte died in 1901 [6] and Hiram died on April 22, 1904 in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. He is buried at the Garden Grove Cemetery there. [7]
