I have been researching my family history for close to 15 years now. During this time I have compiled many birth, marriage and death records. Along with this vast collection, I have come across many photos and newspaper clippings. Most of my information has come from government records, as well as info passed down from relatives. I have tried to keep my tree as close to accurate as possible, but as many know, when researching genealogy, some facts may be incorrect. I hope you enjoy the work that I have done!

Hi Murray, and a belated welcome to WikiTree! You mention ancestors in Scotland and Ireland. I wanted to let you know we have two great projects that focus on Scottish Clans and Irish Roots here called Scottish Clans Project and Irish Roots Project They might be places for you to get involved once you have settled into WikiTree.

You may find some of your ancestors are already on WikiTree and the people in the Scottish Clan Project will be happy to help you in any way they can. Thank you so much for joining WikiTree. Volunteers are what make it such an awesome place to share our family ties.

Hi!

Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.

Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.

WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)

Do you have any questions I can help with?

Hi Murray!

Thank you for your decision to contribute. WikiTreers have all sorts of skills, but one common interest - genealogy. I would recommend first looking around and become familiar with the various functions.

The main menu, located at the top right of the page, offers access to the most important features amongst them your Wiki-ID. In the help section »G2G« at the bottom, you’ll find the WikiTree online help. You can ask all sorts of questions, technical and others, and because WikiTree is worldwide, there is almost always someone online, who can give a qualified answer. Good luck! - And don't forget to sign the Honor Code. Pleasure to have you onboard.

I have been doing my family genealogy for about 14 years now. I find it fascinating to find out past careers and places where my family have lived. My main family names are Thomson (Scotland) and Gray (Scotland)on my Father's side and Cottam (England) and Campbell (Ireland) on my Mother's side. Some of the families immigrated to Ontario first then moved to Manitoba, while others immigrated directly to Manitoba.

Hi Murray I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful.

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.
