Biography

Al Thompson participated with the Splendid Spruces Team adding 4,209 profiles during the 2024 Connect-a-Thon.

Working on the family history -- so far some in Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, Denmark, Austria/Hungary (now Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary), Australia, U.S. and Canada.

I sometimes end up adding profiles or information for people that aren't direct ancestors. These are mostly in-laws or various branches. Or, I research similar names/false trails. Even though they're not relatives, I figure I might as well add what I've found to the tree.

Lately, I have been filling in profiles in the Kilfinan Parish of Argyll, Scotland. I started out trying to make sure I had the correct McLachlan and Lamont ancestors. Then I became interested in seeing in the connections and the community. If I added a profile for your ancestor, I hope it was helpful and correct. Please let me know if you'd like to be profile manager.

Happy to hear from any relatives, however distant.

My paternal greatgrandfather came to New Zealand in 1853 from Egremont,Cumberland. His name was George John Leech and his fathers 'name was John from Penrith,he was a minister.George,Henry , John and William are common names in my family.I would like to find out more about the origins of my family and whether we are connected to the Leech Family from Chatsworth,Helen Potter(nee Leech) mother of Beatrix and also Phillipe Leche who was apparently a doctor in the court of William the conqueror.George John leech's wife was a Thompson from Penrith.

Is this your greatgrandfather's profile? George John Leech (1822-1902)

If so, Wikitree is currently only able to make an indirect (e.g., through marriage) connection to Beatrix: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Special:Connection&action=connect&person1Name=Leech-292&person2Name=Leech-1913&relation=0&ignoreIds=

It's very possible that they are closer, but the ancestor profiles aren't on Wikitree.

Thank you very much for adding important details of Hajum/Heinrich Oppenheimers biography, especially his immigration in the USA and death date. (Waplefield means Michelfeld, I think...) Best wishes from South Bade, Germany,

Eva

Hi, A

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
