Frances was born 22 November 1841 in Broomfield, near Lucan, County Dublin. She was the daughter of Skeffington Thompson and Elizabeth D'Arcy.[1]

She married William Henry Oliver Jackson on 11 July 1866 in Dublin.[2][3] Shortly thereafter, the family emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada,[4] where they lived until about 1870, when they returned to Dublin, Ireland.[5]

They did not remain in Ireland long, however, because by 1872, they had settled in the Chicago, Illinois, area.

Life in America

The family was enumerated in Hyde Park Township, Cook County, Illinois in 1880.[8]

They've not yet been located in 1900, but in 1910, William and Frances were living in Chicago with Walter and his wife, and Annie's two daughters.[9]

Frances lost her eldest son in 1896,[10] and then her husband in 1911.[11]

She and her remaining children, along with Annie's two daughters, left Chicago for Los Angeles shortly afterward, but the move to warmer climes did not cut short the tragedies, for Annie passed away in November 1913.[12] (Just five days later, her husband died in Manhattan.[13]) The newly orphaned girls remained with their aunt and grandmother.[14]

Though Walter does not appear with the household in the 1920 census, his voter registration in 1924 puts in at the same address.[15]

Frances passed away on 12 March 1926 in Los Angeles, and was laid to rest in the Inglewood Park Cemetery.[16] Her children, Walter and Frances, were laid beside her.

Research Notes

Most records spell her middle name "Armitage" but she signed her name on her marriage registration "Armytage".
