Mary Ann Thompson (married name Torney) was born about 1860 (based on her age at death) the daughter of Mary and Robert Thompson.^{[citation needed]}

She was christened on 17 March 1839 at Saint Michael, Workington, Cumberland, England.^{[citation needed]}

She married John Torney on 18 March 1872 in St Arnaud, Victoria, Australia.^[1] Their children were:
