Biography

John was born 20 Feb 1819 in Loughborough, England, and died 9 Jan 1899 in Lapland, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He married Lucy Crouse, 10 Apr 1844 in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. She was born 17 Apr 1825, and died 15 Jun 1915 in Lapland[1].

The Nova Scotia census report of John's family for 1871 shows some anomalies from later ones[2]. It lists John (52) and Lucy (45) as well as their children Abraham (25), Mary Ann (24), and John (23), Lewis (20), Charles (19), Wallace (17) and Emma (14). There is no mention of Abraham in later census reports and John is shown as the eldest child. Also, the name Abraham does not appear in the Family Bible. John and Lucy could read and write by the time this census was taken.

By 1891 Wallace is shown as Head of the household and Lucy and John are living with him and his family. John and Lucy are members of the Church of England in both reports, as is Wallace. Lavinia and the children are Lutheran.

John and Lucy had:
