Note: (See Census data for Harley Thompson's Family under Charles Thompson/Father)
Harley or Harl, as he was known, was born 29 Feb 1868 in Beaver Center
PA, Crawford Co. He was a handsome boy with blue eyes and brown hair.
He was a cabinet Maker by trade and worked at that trade when
they lived in Warren PA. There was a christian lady inBeaver Center
PA who took every opportunity to model her christianity and
frequently came by there home to help Eva and Harl as a young couple.
Her impact was significant enough to whet their appetite for her God
and Harl commented that if that is what a christian is he wanted to be
one. He and Eva trusted Christ as their Saviour and were baptized in
the creek in Beaver Center. It was a cold day they were baptized and
they had to break the ice before the baptizimal service. They moved to
Warren PA and resided there for several years before moving to New
Castle. After moving to New Castle he was for many years the manager
of Cline Lumber Company. With his family he moved from Warren Pa. in
1906 when his daughter Mona (Aunt Mona) was just a little girl of
about three years old. Around 1880-1890 he moved with his family from
Crawford County, Pa. to New Castle and purchased the house at 113 S.
Crawford Ave. He daily led his family in devotions and they
frequently would sing together around the piano and organ. As a
family they frequently were involved in the city mission and had
groups in after missions to sing and have snacks. Harl played a large
bass horn (like a tuba) and sang bass in their church choir. Harl
taught Sunday School for years at the Grace Methodist and Croton
Methodist Churches in New Castle. Harl always saw that the children
went to Sunday School and walked them there himself.
