Letitia Thompson was born on August 29, 1753.[1] She was the daughter of Robert Thompson.[2] She may have been born in Guilford County, North Carolina, or brought their as a very young girl. Her father appears in Guilford County beginning in 1755.[3]
She married Minos Cannon in about 1780 in Guilford County, North Carolina.[4] Their first child -- Newton Cannon, who was later to become one of the early Governors of Tennessee -- was born in Guilford County on May 22, 1781.[5]
In 1790, this family headed by Minos Cannon was living next to the family of Letitia's sister Rebekah -- in the household headed by Rebekah's husband Isaac Wright -- in Guilford County, North Carolina.[6] By 1820, the families of both Minos Cannon and their son Newton Cannon appear living next to each other in Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee.[7]
Letitia made her will on November 21, 1831, and it was probated in Williamson County in April 1832.[8] Although her gravestone indicates that she died on January 11, 1830,[9] the correct date actually appears to be January 11, 1832.
Of these, Famey, Letitia, and Minos are named in her will.[8] Newton, Clement, Famey, Robert, Letitia, and Thompson are named in her husband Minos' will.[10]
