Biography

I was born in Rochester, New York into a musical family, the son of John T. Thomas and Bessie M. (Mimi) Parsons Thomas. I studied at Northwestern University, Eastman School of Music and the University of Minnesota, where I received a PhD. My music is published by a dozen firms, and I’ve composed extensively for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles, choirs, the voice, piano and other keyboards. I also enjoy choral singing and playing chamber music at the piano. I’m active in the local St. David’s Society and enjoy exploring my Welsh heritage as well as my other ancestry. More about my music at www.davidevanthomas.com.

Hi Stuart,

I'm still interested in the Wales Project, but some other concerns have come up, so I'll demur for now. I'll contact you again when I have time.

David - On 1 Feb 2019, you proposed a merge for Jones-47886 & Jones-47882. I helped with completing that merge.

Hi David, Thanks for your interest in the Thomas Name Study. It would be great if you could join up to the One Name Studies Project by answering this G2G thread - https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/742714/one-name-studies-project-request-your-2019-name-study-here and also add 'Thomas' to your tags. I added that table I mentioned on the Thomas Name Study page, so go ahead and add in your info when you are ready.

Also Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Don't forget our G2G Forum where many of our generous members help each other out.

And of course, I'm here to help in any way I’m able. Just ask!

Greetings from Minnesota. I am a composer living in the Twin Cities, researching the background of my parents, a Thomas and a Parsons. Other family names are Crawford, Taylor and Lowry on my father's side, Fish, Reader and Ross on my mother's. I've been researching since spring 2014 and have become somewhat addicted to the process, as I've been finding my feet in a new research field. Professionally, I'm a composer and something of a musical journalist, trying to make classical music more accessible to the concert-goer. I have a couple of graduate degrees in music, but please don't hold it against me: composers shouldn't admit to too much academic training.
