I’m thrilled to find a group of committed genealogy researchers! I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and currently live in Northern California. Several years ago, I spent some time in India. One day I found myself engaged in a conversation with a tour guide who asked me to explain what I meant by my identity as African American. “Where in Africa are your parents from?”, he asked me genuinely curious. I could not provide an answer. “Your grandparents?” I did not know. “How do your people grow if you do not know your roots?” That question pierced my heart, and my soul, awakened my spirit, and now fuels my motivation to dig deeper into my African American roots. I began researching my family over thirty years ago coming to many frustrating dead ends. My goal is to connect to DNA “cousins” who are willing to work together to identify our genetic connection(s), share information, and perhaps have meaningful conversations. I hold two master’s degrees one in Social Work and the other in Human Development. I am currently writing a book about my family based on my academic work: building bridges across racial divisions, and my family and other African Americans who migrated from The South of the United States to the Pacific Northwest. I am a retired social worker, educator, and social justice activist with lots of experience in intergroup dialogue. I will work over the next few weeks to build my family tree and upload genetic information. I may need some assistance! Key family names: Terry, Trice, Reaves/Reeves, Johnson, Ellis, Jefferson, Williams, Myers, Daniel(s). Thank you!
Emma :-)
It would be best if you use your surname or, at least, your first name on your profile. This will help when you're communicating with other WikiTree genealogists. We all share family here, so it's good to know who we're talking to.
You can find more information about how we use names on our Name Fields help page. We strongly discourage the use of Anonymous or initials for both your first and last names.
If you are concerned about Privacy, click the Privacy tab on your profile to view the different settings.
An additional level of anonymity can be achieved by not connecting any of your relatives to your profile.
