This template is managed by the World War II and the Military and War Projects.

This is a sticker and is placed below the ==Biography== line of profiles to indicate a person served in World War II. It is not a Project Box, which for this project is {{World War II Project}}.

The entry format is:

{{World War II|branch=<service branch> or <country>|startdate=service started as dd mmm yyyy|units=unit1; unit2|enddate=service ended as dd mmm yyyy|rank=xxx|unit=1st regt, div, ship, etc|image=image file}}

Enter the service branch or country name to the sticker as shown below i.e.; branch=Australian Army, branch=United States Marine Corps, etc. The sticker will display the correct flag and add the profile to the category <branch>, World War II.

Since the unit(s) served in can be more specific than the level we are creating categories for, i.e. Company B, 1st Battalion, 1st Regiment, have abbreviations, i.e. 1st Regt., or can have multiple units, i.e 1st Regiment in 1941, 7th Cavalry in 1944, the template cannot make assignments to unit categories using this field.

To solve this issue, use the |unit= parameter to identify the 1st unit the person service in.

If no |unit is listed, the category will be assigned based on the <service branch> or <country>. If unit(s) served in is entered, to correctly create the category, add |unit=<unit> at the end of the template line, and the template will format the category to add the profile to using <unit>, <service branch>, World War II. if multiple units are listed, to add the profile to the 2nd, 3rd, etc., the profile will need to be added to the category explicitly with [[Category: <unit>, <service branch>, <war>]] for each of them.

If the category listing on the profile shows up as RED check the spelling/punctuation and the parent category to see if it is spelled the same way. If all looks correct, you can create the new category, default text for the category should be listed in the HELP! section of the parent category.

The |branch= parameter will be displayed on the profile page, and it will be used as a lookup value in the table below to determine what country flag will be displayed. If you identify this parameter with a country or branch not listed, the displayed will show text saying the value is not found.

The |units= parameters will be displayed on the profile page.

If you are working on a country or service branch that is not shown below, send a note to the project leaders to have the sticker updated.

If you do not want to use a default image, you can display a different one using |image=image file.
