Dr. Amanda Norris was born in 1849. She graduated from the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 1880. Returning to Baltimore with this degree, she became the first female physician in Maryland. She was a Professor of Practical Obsetrics at the Women's Medical College of Baltimore as well as a physician in private practice.
In 1929, the Women's Medical Society held a dinner honoring her for 50 years in the profession. She passed away in 1944. She was posthumously inducted into the Maryland Women's Hall of Fame in 1995 [1].
